About
“The Missouri Growth Association has a distinguished history of service to the commercial real estate industry. Whether inside the Capitol or at City Hall, the MGA has become a vigilant and respected voice for commercial real estate and a valued advocate for impactful economic development policies all across Missouri. I am proud to be a part of the Leadership Team for 2012.”
Garrick Hamilton, MGA President
The Koman Group
Founded in 1985, today the Missouri Growth Association has over 196 corporate members statewide. While membership is diverse, we are commonly impacted by policy decisions relating to the commercial real estate industry at both the state and local levels. Our membership includes property owners, brokers, managers, developers and companies that provide essential services, such as architects, engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, attorneys and lenders as well as a variety of industry consultants.
MGA also represents ten commercial property related trade associations who generally have a seat on our Board of Directors. Those associations are listed in our Partners section.
The MGA strives to be a resource to its members and those making policy decisions affecting our industry. We monitor both State and local governmental activities to ensure our membership is well informed on issues important to those working in commercial real estate. In doing so, MGA works diligently to support legislation and initiatives that strengthen our economy or improve conditions for the commercial property industry. MGA also focuses efforts to oppose measures that threaten the local economy, hurt the prospects for job creation, or harm the direct interests of industry in Missouri.
MGA Mission Statement
The MGA exists to improve the commercial and investment real estate climate throughout the state. In collaboration with leading industry groups, we serve as a strong voice for the commercial and investment real estate community and promote the health, vitality and future economic growth of the state of Missouri for the benefit of our members.
Some of MGA’s accomplishments include:
- Instrumental in the passage and continuation of critical economic development programs for the State of Missouri, such as Quality Jobs Act and historic tax credits
- Successfully challenging repeated attempts to limit the use of eminent domain in Missouri and commissioned an case study analysis of eminent domain in urban revitalization.
- Commissioned a report from St. Louis University Department of Public Policy Studies on the impact on job creation and economic activity across the State as a result of the historic preservation tax credits.
- Developed educational position papers on Historic Tax Credits, Quality Jobs Program, Brownfield Tax Credits and Tax Increment Financing. Presented papers to the Missouri Legislature to be used as a resource for future legislative consideration when studying or altering these programs.
- Held two very successful networking events each year – the first in Kansas City in each June, the second in St. Louis in the fall.
- Provided a number of programming opportunities on legislative issues, candidate forums and other pertinent issues confronting our State.
- Maintained our traditional role as watchdog on all local government taxation and assessment issues.
- Proven ability to mobilize membership on local issues, including efforts to levy commercial-only property tax.
- Cooperated in the formation of the Commercial Real Estate Industry Political Action Committee (CRI PAC)
